Fernandina Beach High School Participates in Jacksonville’s One Spark

Fernandina Beach High School Participates in Jacksonville's One SparkFernandina Beach High School is participating in OneSpark in Jacksonville, Florida!

Chef Michael Gass, teacher of the school’s culinary arts program, is creating Project Pirate CAFÉ, which is an acronym for teaching Culinary Arts through Farming Education. This outdoor classroom will consist of 12 raised beds where students can grow their own produce, prepare dishes from the foods they’ve grown and sell them in the café.

What is One Spark?
One Spark is the World’s Largest Crowdfunding Festival, designed to connect Creators with the resources they need to bring their ideas to life. From April 7 – 12, 2015, artists, entrepreneurs and innovators in Art, Education, Health & Science, Music, Social Good, and Technology will display Projects in a 20-square-block, multi-venue gallery in downtown Jacksonville, Florida.

One Spark is the community behind great ideas. It’s your chance to submit and decide on the next big thing. It’s the opportunity to get involved, be inspired, connect and collaborate.

The project for Fernandina Beach High School will be pitched to the judges (think Shark Tank) on Friday evening at 8:20 pm at the corner of Forsyth and Main Streets.

Chef Gass teaches his students from real world experience; this project opens the conversation, and his curriculum, to topics like healthy meal options, obesity, special diets, nutrition and more.

You can help by downloading the One Spark app for iPhone or Android devices and contributing to the projects that inspire you, like the Pirate Cafe.
