The Season of Giving is on our doorstep. Take Stock in Children deserves your attention and donation.
Take Stock in Children, a Florida statewide non-profit organization with a 15 year history of working to help low-income and at-risk teenagers break the cycle of poverty by providing scholarships, mentors and hope for children is organizing a “Light up a Life” Benefit on December 2nd at the OMNI Amelia Island Plantation from 6 – 9 pm at the Conference Center.
According to Jody Mackle, program director for “Take Stock in Children” for Nassau County, this will be an excellent opportunity to validate the program by meeting with TSIC students and organizers.
Take Stock awards college scholarships to high achieving, low income family children, who are graduating from Nassau County high schools. A wonderful program, says my friend Kay, who has mentored a Yulee girl for more than 7 years.
The organization’s website states that: Its program is based on the principle that given extensive support, motivation and accountability, children will work hard to ensure that they graduate from high school and attain a college degree. It continues by saying that the organization funds its college scholarships and student services through a unique public-private fund raising mode, while mentors generously volunteer their mentoring services to the children.
