The Chalk Garden

By: The Mouth of Amelia

The Chalk Garden is now playing at Amelia Community Theatre. This dramatic comedy by Enid Bagnold is a witty play with elements of comedy, drama and mystery.

The show is set in England in the 1950s at the country estate of Mrs. St. Maugham and begins with the hiring of Miss Madrigal as a companion for her troubled granddaughter, Laurel.

Laurel no longer lives with her mother and has found a way to get rid of most of her governesses. She and the servant Maitland are fascinated by crime stories, and Laurel is determined to expose the secret past that she is sure Miss Madrigal is hiding.

Secrets do surface when a judge comes to visit, and the truth brings resolutions.
