The newest exhibition at the Cummer Museum is Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection.

Press release: The newest exhibition at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection, will open on October 18, 2019. The exhibition will be on view to the public through January 5, 2020.

A celebration of beauty, Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection features more than 60 objects, spanning over 30 years of Tiffany’s prolific career. One of America’s most renowned artists, Louis Comfort Tiffany worked in nearly all of the media available to artists and designers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including glass, ceramic, metalwork, jewelry and painting.

Tiffany’s technical brilliance in a wide variety of media enabled him to convey his awe of the natural world through a range of objects, from common household items to one-of-a-kind masterpieces. He earned international acclaim for his artistic output, receiving prestigious awards in exhibitions across Europe and the United States.

The floral inspiration seen in this collection complements the splendor of the newly reconstructed Cummer Gardens, which reopened to the public in June 2019 after an extensive $1.3 million renovation.

“The glass on view in Louis Comfort Tiffany will expose an under-discussed element of artistic production: That artists are innovators — they are the tinkerers who design new methods to problems others sometimes view as intractable,” said Adam Levine, the Museum’s George W. and Kathleen I. Gibbs Director & CEO. “This exhibition will illuminate the story and inspiration behind the glass. What makes Tiffany’s work so impressive, beyond its sheer beauty, is that he pioneered the techniques that allowed for such variegated and multi-toned glass.”
