Vietnamese Buddhist Talismans Lecture

James Kemp will be giving a lecture on Vietnamese Buddhist Talismans at the Plantation Artists’ Guild and Gallery. This adjunt professor of Asian humanities at the Florida Community College at Jacksonville will be on Amelia Island for this educational event being held on Monday, February 8, at 7:00 PM.

Mr. Kemp has collected over 1,000 woodblock talismans from the Far East over the past 30 years. His presentation will explain the complicated symbols that were intended to be used by the dead in their journey toward rebirth. The Vietnamese consider viewing these talismans as unlucky. This is a rare treat to for those interested in wood block printing or oriental art.
