It is January 2012, and time to get in the Cypress Gardens State of Mind! Imagine Florida in the 1950’s, acres of azaleas and magnolias, water skis and cypress knees, of towering pines and endless sunshine. Join us for the Friends of the Library Annual Literary Luncheon.
The new Omni chef has created a special menu for the Friends plated lunch: shrimp and corn chowder, grilled chicken with boursin mashed potatoes and vegetables, with mixed berry shortcake for dessert (rolls, coffee/tea), or vegetarian lunch which must be reserved in advance.
Purchase tickets at the Library, 25 North 4th Street, or call 277-7365 for will call reservations. Group reservations for tables of 8 are 10% off the full table price. Individual tickets are $35 for FOL members, $45 for non-members.
The Friends of the Library, Fernandina Beach, Annual Literary Luncheon will take place on January 13, Friday, at Noon, in the Heron Room (Racquet Park near the Veranda Restaurant) on the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort.
The guest speaker is Lu Vickers author of Cypress Gardens, American’s Tropical Wonderland: How Dick Pope Invented Florida. She will share her motivations for writing this book and her research into Pope’s creation, the rich history of the landmark attraction, its decline following the construction of Walt Disney World, and its future as part of Legoland Florida.
Stay to meet the Lu Vickers after the presentation. Her books will be available for purchase, and she will autograph them for you. Start the New Year right, with friends and a good book!
