Fernandina Little Theatre is the headquarters for the Festival; workshops for kids ages 4-11 will be offered throughout the day.
Popular storyteller-singer and recording artist “Mrs. Kate” Carpenter will again kick off the annual Creative Kids Festival on Saturday, January 18, 2014, filling the Fernandina LIttle Theatre with her lively Florida folk music. Using puppetry, unusual instruments and riveting storytelling, her interaction with the audience is creative and unforgettable.
“Mrs. Kate” has been singing, picking guitar, and writing songs for over 40 years, and is a featured performer at the Florida Folk Festival.
“The goal of the Creative Kids Festival is to inspire the imagination and the artist inside every child,” said Artistic Director of Fernandina Little Theatre Kate Hart, which organizes the festival each year. “We are providing opportunities for children to participate fully in the creative process, as learners, creators, and as audience members,” Hart said. “So many creative people live and work in this area, we wanted to take advantage of all that talent to help kids explore their own creativity.”
The festival is a collaborative effort between a number of local organizations and artists in addition to “Mrs. Kate”, including Kinderstudios, Amelia Island Museum of History, FLT, Island Art Association, and Capt. Andrew “Magic” Yellen and his partner, Ruthellen Mulberg.
The Fernandina Little Theatre at 1014 Beech St. is the headquarters for the Festival; workshops for kids ages 4-11 will be offered throughout the day, at a variety of venues in downtown Fernandina Beach. The schedule includes sessions in theater arts, music, visual arts, tumbling, history, and magic.
Registration will be 9-9:30am at FLT. Hour-long sessons will start at 9:30am, 11am, 12noon, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 4pm, with children moving to a different venue for each session.
Sessions include a workshop geared to a different age group, either 4-7 yrs, or 8-11 yrs.
Special activities are being planned for parents to enjoy while their children are at a workshop, including massages at Coastal Massage Therapy.
A Festival pass (admission to five workshops) is $29/child; enrollment is limited. Passes can be purchased in advance at The UPS Store in Fernnadina Beach. For more information on FLT events, visit ameliaflt.org.
