What says summer to you? Is it going to the beach, roller coasters, or a Beach Boys song? Fernandina Beach, Florida, is full of summer fun. We have great beaches, lots of tourists taking carriage rides and enjoying our wonderful town, and we have ice cream.
Strolling down Centre Street on a warm July evening, my favorite guy and I head for the local ice cream shop, Fantastic Fudge. The shop draws lines of people and it is invariably packed on summer nights with folks spilling out of the store. It is the HOTTEST cool place in town. There are many people standing on the sidewalk and sitting in every available spot enjoying their waffle cones, sugar cones, and various combinations of treats. Ice cream has a way of making both kids and adults happy.
There are many flavors to choose from such as the exotic (Raspberry Haze, Berry Cheesecake, Cappuccino Kahlua, Pineapple Orange, and Superman) to the classic (Cookies and Cream, Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Butter Pecan and Mint Chocolate Chip). After contemplating my options, I chose Cappuccino Kahlua. It was cool, creamy, and oh so good.
We all know that times are tough. It is easy to see when you head over the bridge to the island for a trip downtown. It seems that each time I drive down 8th Street there is another business that is gone. But no matter what else is going on, it is good to know that after a hot summer day, you can always head to Fantastic Fudge for ice cream. Whatever flavor you choose, enjoy your taste of summer.
