Interested in auditioning during the upcoming season at Amelia Community Theatre? Come and read scenes from the plays and meet the directors.
This is your opportunity to socialize with your fellow actors. The Amelia Community Theatre will hold its second annual Actors Night Out at 7 p.m. on August 14 at 209 Cedar Street. This is an opportunity for those interested in auditioning during the upcoming season to read scenes from the plays and meet the directors.
This is not an audition, just an evening for fun and information. It is not necessary to have previous acting experience. The plays to be introduced are:
Educating Rita – Rita is a 26-year-old married woman who is stuck in the uneducated working class as a hairdresser and her family wants her to just produce offspring and look after her husband.
The Odd Couple – The plot concerns two mismatched roommates, one neat and uptight, the other more easygoing but slovenly.
The Pirates of Penzance – This story concerns Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tenderhearted pirates, then finds out his birthday is February 29… so, technically he has many more years to serve under the Pirate King.
The Chalk Garden – The play tells the story of Mrs. St Maugham and her granddaughter Laurel, a disturbed child who’s atrocious behavior stems from her belief that her oft-married mother does not love her.
Post-Mortem – This clever thriller is packed with suspects and murder mystery devices: a scéance, shots in the dark, deathbed letters, and darkly held secrets.
Volunteers who want to work offstage are encouraged to attend also. Actors Night Out is for information, encouragement, practice, and fun. Separate auditions for each play have been scheduled at a later date. Audiences are fun to have, too, so come on out to watch, listen and CLAP! For more information, call the theatre at 261-6749.
