Beans are In Season at the Fernandina Farmers MarketBeans, beans, they’re good for your heart, the more you eat simply shows you’re smart… smart at making wise nutrition decisions especially when choosing a great source of vegetarian protein!

It is bean season for the farmers’ market in historic, downtown Fernandina Beach, Florida. Produce vendors Kings Kountry Kitchen and Boatright Farms are telling us, “Beans are in season.” Apparently, our choices are wide including Ford hooks, white butter, white acre, black eyed, pink eyed and green lima beans, just to name a few.

Legumes are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, as well as magnesium, iron and potassium. They have even been shown to help lower cholesterol and blood pressure to help you have a healthy heart, so the nursery rhyme was right after all! As it turns out, the other part of the nursery rhyme is also true for those sensitive to fibre in legumes, or those suffering with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

A true farmers’ market, the Fernandina Beach Market Place hosts a street full of local vendors carrying fresh produce, seasonable fruits, hand crafted soaps and candles, fresh baked breads, and much, much more.

Local’s favorite, Great Harvest Bread Company, is offering a unique Rocky Road bread for June. Caramel, pecans and chocolate are drizzled throughout this sweet loaf that has become a favorite slice for breakfast in my kitchen recently.

June 22 at the Market Place features Larry LeMeir strumming favorites on the guitar, and we are excited to welcome a new vendor specializing in rubs, seasonings and infused olive oils.

Florida’s friendliest farmers’ market is open each and every Saturday, rain or shine, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM on N. 7th Street on Amelia Island. Well behaved pets are welcome, too.
