Bliss Cupcakery Approaching One Year Anniversary

In less than one year, Bliss Cupcakery's sinfully delicious delights have become a favorite for weddings and parties.

Bliss Cupcakery Approaching One Year AnniversaryBliss Cupcakery will be celebrating their one year anniversary December 11th and even with a team of 1/2 dozen wonderful folks, proprietor Karen Ray continues to be an incredibly busy women.

While Bliss makes cakes and cake pops, too, cupcakes are their specialty and they offer about 40 flavor combinations. Team members bake them all day long, from scratch, without preservatives or other additives in what may possibly be the cleanest commercial kitchen I have ever seen. In less than one year, these sinfully delicious delights have become a favorite for weddings and parties at some of our communities most popular venues.

Located in the Verizon Shopping Center, just west of Amelia Island, Bliss feels more like an artistic bistro than a bakery. The charming location invites you to pull up a chair and take the time to indulge in a cupcake and coffee, or gelato and a Jones soda.

Karen sent me home with a variety of cupcakes and I created a taste-testing with my family after dinner. I knew to keep them out of the refrigerator, and the cupcakes kept just fine on my kitchen counter, under a cake dome, for several hours before our tasting event began. While I prefered the chocolate/peanut butter, my daughter said the chocolate ganash was her favorite. I was not surprised that my husband selected the red velvet as his winner, but my son said it all by commenting, “That was not the best tasting cupcake I have ever put in my mouth, it was the best tasting anything I have ever put in my mouth!”

Coconut is Karen’s favorite flavor and some of the most popular cupcake flavors include those listed above as well as turtle, wedding cake, key lime and carrot cake.

The close-knit team takes pride in accepting special orders and custom requests, doing their best to produce a tasty cupcake. Their oddest requests have included Maple Bacon and Chili Pepper cupcakes. Working her Facebook page she once ran a new flavor contest and the winner was Caramel Apple. It sounds delicious, but they went all out and made them look like apples on a stick, rolled in nuts and all. While she admitted they were quite tasty and extremely attractive, Karen said they were unusually difficult to make.

Another specialty offered by Bliss is Gelato. Gelato is Italy’s version of ice cream, but with significantly less fat. Flavors like toasted coconut almond fudge, autumn spice crunch and pumpkin cheesecake are just begging to be sampled. She even carries a flavor Oprah Winfrey featured on her Favorite Things episode, banana caramel praline. As a perpetual dieter interviewing a master of desserts, I was delighted to sample the mango sorbet.

Jones soda is also available at Bliss in cream soda, root beer, blue bubblegum and berry lemonade. But her flavors change frequently, so you have to check back regularly to find your personal favorite. She did give me a sneak peek into the 4-pack of specialty sodas offered for the holidays that include a bottle each of pear tree, sugar plum, candy cane and a ginger bread soda. What a cute gift idea for the soda lover in your family!

Bliss cupcakes show up at plenty of parties and events around town and if you are planning to serve cupcakes at your next event you should order them at least a day or two in advance. My favorite to serve at a party are the mini cupcakes and those are considered a special order. So make sure you order at least two dozen well in advance of your event. Wedding and specialty cake orders are in high demand and she is practically booked full into the spring and early summer of 2012.

Karen believes in listening to her customers when she adds new flavors. Much of the inspiration simply comes from her team, her customers and just playing around in the kitchen.

Bliss Cupcakery makes their cupcakes fresh daily. They are $2.50 each or buy 11 and get one free. They are open Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. They are open until 8:00 PM on Friday and Saturday and are closed on Sundays.

Call them at (904) 849-7229 to place your orders, or if you have never been there, you really should stop by and just smell the place! Keep an eye on their Facebook page for special flavors of the day, contests and other promotions.
