People have flocked to Amelia Island for two exceptional car auctions and the 16th Annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.
We took the video camera out to the Ritz Carlton and the Omni Amelia Island Plantation to get a preview of some fantastic cars that will hit the auction block on Friday and Saturday.
Cars and motorcycles in the Gooding & Company auction on Friday included a 1946 Indian 346 Chief Sportsman, a 1962 Cobra, a 1959 Volkswagen Beetle, a 1990 Ferrari F40 and a 1991 Lamborghini Diablo that was orange with a capital “O”! My husband’s favorite was the 1960 Volkswagen Double Cab that would be right at home in Fernandina Beach if you strapped a surf board to the roof!
Back at the Ritz Carlton, RM Auctions put out an amazing set of cars that will go to the auction block on Saturday. Some of the cars that caught my attention included a 1948 Chrysler Town & Country Sedan (complete with wood grain panel siding), a 1932 Cadillac Sixteen Special Phaeton by Fisher, an American Muscle Car classic… a 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler; and a precious little 1960 Fiat 500 Jolly that would be just perfect for my nearly 16 year old daughter.
Take a look at the following video and pick out your favorite!
The RM Auction will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 beginning at 11:00 AM.
The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance takes place at The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach, adjacent to the Ritz Carlton on Sunday, March 13, 2011 with over 300 cars on the show field and this year’s Honoree, Bobby Rahal.
