When Nassau County, Florida lost one of their own sons to the tragedy of war, the entire community shed a tear and saw that he was escorted home Saturday evening, from the Jacksonville International Airport, by a variety of law enforcement and patriotic agencies.
Out of respect, neighbors and friends in Fernandina Beach lined the streets, joining hands on a chilly and grey Sunday afternoon in December. Some were holding their hand over their hearts while others stood tall and saluted as the funeral procession of Kelly J. Mixon made its way from Oxley Heard Funeral Home to First Baptist Church.
Specialist Mixon, who would have turned 24 years old on December 21st, was killed in Afghanistan while protecting our Freedoms.
