29 South Eats

29 South is located in a re-purposed old Fernandina Beach house in the Historic District, with an organic garden out back. This eclectic bistro can best be described as having creative cuisine with an au naturel twist.

Classic world cuisine with a modern twist prepared with ingredients sourced from local farms and onsite garden. Signature items include Lobster Corn Dogs with Spicy Horseradish Ketchup spiked with Kettle One Vodka, Sweet Tea Brined DelKat Family Farm Pork Chop on Macaroni Gratin with Warm Blackberry Preserves, and Grilled Heart of Romaine Salad with Maytag Blue Vinaigrette with House Cured Applewood Bacon and Toasted Walnuts.

With Chef Schwartz being a member of the Slow Food Movement it is no surprise that 29 South is a proud supporter of the farm to fork concept utilizing produce and cuts from local and regional farmers and ranchers and the procurement of the freshest possible ingredients. Located on site behind the restaurant, a garden provides fresh organic fruits and vegetables seasonally grown. Comprised of fourteen beds, and various potted plants, the garden is always in bloom and visitors are welcome. It is managed by Nan Kavanaugh with the help of the 29 South crew.

Ask for Arnando “Papi” Gonzalez’s Puerto Rican specialty Sancocho, a sumptuous Caribbean meat and vegetable stew that contains plantains, yucca, sweet potatoes, mélanges, pork, corn, cilantro and much more, served over rice and topped with freshly sliced avocado.

Children’s menus always available. Good wine selection. Full Bar.

Arte Pizza

Much more than only pizza, Arte Pizza’s is fabulous and real Italian.
Oven-fired thin crust, big salads, variety of Italian pastas and casseroles. Beer, wine, sangria, sodas. The new dining room can accommodate about 60 guests with outside terrace seating capacity of about 30 as well.
Definitely one of our personal favorites, Arte is located just a block north of Center Street on 3rd Street. Real Italian atmosphere. Thin wheat crust is magnificent and the Vegetarian Pizza is to die for. But if you really want a dish that explodes in delicious flavors try Tony’s Macaroni and Cheese. Jalapeño, shrimp, bacon and three cheeses. What a feast! Also his Seafood Lasagna and Bacon wrapped Shrimp is beyond words.

Street side parking and parking in back of building or walk from library parking lot. Owner/chef Tony hails from the Amalfi/Capri area just south of Naples, the birthplace of real pizza, and it has never disappointed us.

Bistro Le Clos

Le Clos serves delicious Provençal dishes by candlelight in a charming, intimate 1906 cottage. Chef-owner Katherine Ewing received full degrees in both pastry and cuisine from Le Cordon Bleu and L’Ecole de Gastronomie Francaise Ritz – Escoffier, Paris, and trained at the Ritz Hotel, Paris, France.

Le Clos is petite and cozy. Diners are seated in either a smaller side room with four tables or the larger room with more than a dozen tables. Both rooms are tasteful and understated, with salmon walls and white trim matching the snowy table linens. Candlelit tables add a dash of amoré, while background music includes scatterings of pop and jazz (Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald & Steve Tyrell).

The menu items are prepared carefully and presented beautifully with an emphasis on impeccably fresh seafood. Chilean Bass is an often a repeated house specialty. Small interior, small portions, grand on taste, grand on wallet.

The extensive wine list offers the prefect accompaniment for every menu selection. Downtown street parking.
