The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market and the Fernandina Beach Arts Market will both be open on November 9, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. Located under the Spanish moss draped oak trees of North Seventh Street in downtown Fernandina, this open air market offers live entertainment for the whole family and is dog friendly, too. This week’s musician is Thaxton Rowe. There will be about 70 tents for you to visit. Please feel free to talk to the artists, farmers, ranchers and producers; vendors love to talk about their products!

In the midst of 30 art and craft booths, Shady Ladies will be in the Arts Market with watercolors, painted shells, note cards, shell wreaths, and shell art. You will also find whimsical and fine jewelry, woodworking, hand sewn purses and handbags, driftwood art pieces, and additional handmade arts and crafts.

pecan-oil-fernandinaVisit nearly 40 booths of seasonal produce, locally sourced specialty items, and handcrafted body products. You’ll find fresh baked breads, natural insect sprays, plants for your home, garden or gift giving, sauces, salsas, and dips, and so much more. New vendors this Saturday include DNP Cupcakery; stop by and welcome owners Denise and Staniqua. Their flavorful cupcakes include strawberry margarita, vegan vanilla bean, vanilla or chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream icing, and a decadent chocolate on chocolate cupcake, “These girls run off of cupcakes and Jesus.”

Also new to the Market Place this week is ATJ Natural Insect Spray. This Ponte Vedra, Florida, company states, “The Center for Disease Control lists our ingredients as being as effective as DEET. It has been used around the world – with success!” My interest is peaked, I bet yours is too.

Weekly Vendor Ganas Pecans not only brings fresh pecans, boiled peanuts, and variety of flavored pecans, but they also bring 100% pecan oil. This Southern oil is light and healthy, rich in monounsaturated fats and low in saturated fats. It has a buttery, nutty flavor and is perfect for sauteing, baking, grilling, and with a 470 degree smoking point, pecan oil is as good for deep frying as it is a bread dip. This oil is one of the farmers market’s best kept secrets.

Perhaps you are interested in making your own oil and vinegar dressing? Then, check out Carter Family Homestead, too. Adam brings local, organically grown Italian garlic infused rice and balsamic vinegar.

This week’s sponsors are Jack and Diane’s restaurant located on Centre Street in Fernandina Beach. They are open for breakfast and lunch Saturdays and Sundays, and All American Gutter Protection. They offer the best micro mesh gutter guards and gutters at highly competitive pricing. They join us in the markets nearly every week to answer your questions on rainwater management for your home.
