The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market is open every Saturday of the year from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine. The only day the market is not open is the Saturday of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, which is normally held the first weekend in May. Of course, if Fernandina Beach is under a tropical storm warning or higher, the Market Place will close, too. Otherwise, we are like the postal service and brave the frigid cold, the rain, and sweltering heat every Saturday of the year.
The Market Place offers over 30 vendors who grow, catch, make or produce an amazing variety of seasonal produce, fresh baked breads, honey, jams and jellies, gluten-free baked goods, vegan pastries, ethnic specialties, soy candles, hand crafted soaps, spices, dips, sauces, rubs, flowers, plants, succulents, salmon, beef, wild caught shrimp and more.
This week we are featuring Vegan Amelia, a weekly vendor. This small, family run company produces Peanut Butter Date Bites, Raw Peppermint Bites, Chris’ Favorite Chocolate Cake, Twix Cookies, Lemon Bars, and other goodies!
Also, this week we’d like to put the spotlight on JD Beef, another weekly vendor. They bring us whole chickens, pork, and antibiotic and hormone free, grass-fed beef. Grass-fed meat is lower in fat and will brown nicely if you put a light coat of oil in your pan. Lean cuts of New York strips or sirloin steaks are perfect for marinades. For more ideas, stop by their booth and pick up some of their tips for cooking your favorite cut of grass-fed beef.
The Market Place farmers market is located on North Seventh Street between Alachua and Centre Streets in historic Fernandina Beach.
