The flag display on the bridge, Memorial Day Ceremony on Centre Street and Fort Clinch programs are all planned for the weekend.
The Veterans of Nassau County display of flags will welcome guests visiting Amelia Island for Memorial Day. The flags will be placed at the Shave Bridge on Friday, May 24 as is traditional for this holiday, and removed on Tuesday, May 28. This display of flags is led by the Vietnam Vets, and is supported by all of the veteran organizations of Nassau County. It is very impressive to see all of these flags blowing in the breeze when approaching the island as one comes over the bridge. (Help is always needed putting up and removing the flags. Meet at the bridge, Friday, the 24th, at 3:30 PM. Time for removing the flags on the 28th is 3:00 at the bridge.)
Monday, May 27, 11 a.m. is the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the foot of Centre Street, the site of the War Memorial. This year’s ceremony is conducted by the Byrd-Wallace Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4351.
Fort Clinch State Park will host a Memorial Day weekend program on Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. This program will honor the men and women of WWII. There is an admission fee to the park.
