Bonjour! The Island Chamber Singers will highlight French composers for their Spring concerts on April 7 and 9 at the Amelia Plantation Chapel.

Entitled “The French Connection,” the main event will be Francis Poulenc’s Gloria, which the singers will also perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in February. Composed in 1959 and sung in Latin, this work is the traditional Gloria in Excelsis Deo broken into six movements with a different ambience in each movement.

Also featured for this concert are three pieces by Gabriel Faure, “Vocalise,” “Madrigal” and “Ici-Bas,” and two by Claude Debussy, “Reverie” and “Beau Soir” (Beautiful Evening). The singers will be accompanied by an orchestra and led by director and founder, Jane Lindberg.

The concerts will take place at Amelia Plantation Chapel, 36 Bowman Road, Amelia Island, on Friday, April 7, at 7 pm and Sunday, April 9, at 3 pm. An opening night reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following Friday evening’s performance.
