Why did Gilbert's really close on Amelia Island?
Most of you have already heard about the closure of Gilbert’s Underground Kitchen in Fernandina Beach. Chef Kenny Gilbert received a degree in Culinary Arts after high school and by the time he was 23 he had worked his way up to Chef de Cuisine at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island. He earned his claim to fame as a celebrity chef, and as a contestant on season seven of Bravo’s “Top Chef”.
While most I’ve spoken with are sorry to see the restaurant close, the tone of the closure letter, and its cover letter we received, delivered mixed messages. We hope to see his quick return, but perhaps Chef Gilbert should have penned the entire announcement himself. Decide for yourself…
COVER LETTER
Greetings,
Thank you so much for your support over the past five years. It is with a heavy heart that Chef Kenny announces the closure of Gilbert’s Underground Kitchen. The current climate on the island has not been conducive for him to keep the doors open any longer. Please follow us on social media for announcements about new ventures.
Thank you
