Wednesday, March 10, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM there will be a meeting to discuss the Hometown Democracy Amendment. Held at the Fernandina Beach Police Station’s conference room on Lime Street, this meeting is FREE and open to the public. This amendment will be on the November ballot in the State of Florida and will change the way land use decisions are made. You are encouraged to attend this meeting to hear a non-partisan discussion about the Hometown Democracy Amendment.
This issue will become more controversial as election day draws near and you should take a look at the pro and con sides of this important vote.
AIA Florida is against the amendment and on their website they state, “Amendment 4 would affect our state’s economy and quality of life by requiring every local government comprehensive plan change to be approved by voters. It would result in an average of 200 – 300 plan changes to be approved every year, greatly increasing the cost of local government, place unreasonable and expensive burdens on business and property owners, and limit the ability of our communities to adapt to the challenges of the 21st century.”
Florida Hometown Democracy is a grass-roots, non-partisan citizens’ initiative organized to put Amendment 4 on the November 2010 ballot. “We are Floridians who dearly love our state and know that putting the people back in charge of the places where they live is key to a sustainable future.”
