Dave Cobb of Florida Power and Light will be the speaker at the next meeting of the Yulee Area Council. This business council meets at 8:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month to network and discuss business issues.

Cobb will speak on the environmental and economic benefits of FPL’s initiatives to develop clean energy for Florida. A clean energy leader, FPL has one of the lowest emissions profiles and one of the leading energy efficiency programs among utilities nationwide.

Admission is free for Chamber members; $25 for non-members. Optional breakfast is available.

Leadership Nassau application deadline

Application deadline for the Leadership Nassau Class of 2013 is 5 p.m. July 20, 2012.

Leadership Nassau is a 10-month educational program where participants get an in-depth understanding of the history, economy, government, environment and culture of Nassau County with the goal of developing new community leaders. Participants engage in activities that connect them with civic and business leaders throughout the region.

The Leadership Nassau program is open to any resident of Nassau County, but recruitment targets individuals with diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds and seeks a racial, gender and age mix reflective of the population. Cost is $650.00 for members of the AIFBY Chamber of Commerce, $850.00 for non-members.

Government Affairs Committee

The Government Affairs Committee works to increase awareness of regulatory and legislative issues affecting AIFBY Chamber members by encouraging input and participation in local/state committees and boards.

The GAC meets the last Wednesday of the month to discuss issues and to recommend formal policy stances for adoption by the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

YBiz hosts its first meet and greet event at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.

YBiz is the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce’s new group for 20 to 30 something professionals interested in developing a network, having a voice in the community and building Nassau County as an ideal place for young professionals to live and work. This is the first in a series of events hosted by YBiz member businesses.

Admission is $5 and includes hors d’oeuvres and a drink ticket. The group will introduce YBiz and give all attendees the opportunity to network and meet other motivated young professionals in the area. PGA Professional Kyle Roosen will speak on behalf of YBiz about the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.

Health Care Council

The Chamber’s Health Care Council focuses on raising awareness of health care services in Nassau County as well as developing professional contacts among local health-related organizations.

July’s Health Care Council will be hosted by Quality Health of Fernandina Beach. The speaker will be Marilyn Parker, Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) liason with the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, who will give an introduction to SHINE.

Admission is free for Chamber members; $25 for non-members.

Quarterly Luncheon

The Chamber will present an Anthony Robbins Peak Performance Workshop, “Turning Action into Results!” during our Quarterly Luncheon on July 31, 2012.

Tariq Johnson, a Peak Performance Strategist and National Speaker from the Anthony Robbins Company, will provide attendees with the same strategies, communications skills, and physiology used by the world’s top achievers to attain outstanding success and fulfillment.

Johnson will discuss:
