Leadership Nassau Graduation May 16, 2013Amelia Island, FL – “”Lucky 13,” the 13th class of Leadership Nassau, the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce’s community leadership development program, graduated May 16, 2013.

The commencement ceremony at the Amelia Masonic Lodge in Fernandina Beach wrapped up class members’ 10-month immersion into the history, economy, environment, government and culture of Nassau County.

“It was a truly awesome experience,” said Class 13 member Mark Dennis of A1A Wealth Management.

The 18 members of Class 13 opted to do their community outreach project while the program was still in session. Class members headed to the Council on Aging of Nassau County Eastside Senior Center on April 13 painting the center and several offices, pressure-washing the porch and furniture, planting flowers, trimming shrubs and spreading mulch. Supplies were donated by Amelia Urgent Care, Fernandina Mulch & Stone and The Home Depot.

“If one needed another reason to love living and working in the Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Yulee area, Leadership Nassau would be it,” wrote Council on Aging Executive Director Janice Ancrum in a letter to the local newspaper. “Their spirit of community and willingness to reach out and help should be recognized and applauded.”

The AIFBY Chamber is now accepting applications for Class 14 through Monday, July 1.

Leadership Nassau is open to any resident of Nassau County, but recruitment targets individuals with diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds and seeks a racial, gender and age mix reflective of the population. Cost is $650 for members of the Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber of Commerce, $850 for non-members.

Applications for the 2013-14 Leadership Nassau class are available at the Chamber, 961687 Gateway Blvd., Suite 101G, Amelia Island, and on the Chamber’s website at www.islandchamber.com/Leadership-Nassau.aspx.
