Life After Graduation

I graduated two weeks ago with a four year degree in Legal Studies. Most often I am asked, “What are you going to do now?” While I am sure that the question is well intended, it makes me feel like I am expected to continue my education, change my job, or do something else. A lot of people also ask me if I am going to become a lawyer. While a lot of my fellow students intend to apply to law school, I do not think that this is a requirement. I also have not found that potential attorneys choose an undergraduate degree in the legal field. They tend to choose a degree in other fields such as political science, English, or even criminal justice so that they are considered to be “well-rounded”.

I am proud that I am a nationally certified paralegal with a Bachelor’s degree. I am content in my job for the time being. My position is not going to change simply because I have completed my degree program. Although I will never stop learning, perhaps I am finished going to school.

For now, I am going to enjoy not having homework, exams, or deadlines. It will be nice to be relieved of some of the pressure that I intentionally self-inflicted and spend some time catching up on television shows I have recorded and movies I have missed. My life after graduation my include relaxing and reading a book for pleasure!
