Meals on Wheels have discovered that many of the program’s recipients are sharing food with their pets, because pet food is so expensive. The Amelia River Cruises, Council on Aging and the Nassau Humane Society recently joined together in support of Meals on Wheels for Pets. Aside from the fact that the human beings need this nourishment, some of the recipes are not appropriate for cats and dogs.
Rollin’ on the River is a partnership project that will take you on September 13, for a scenic Sunday cruise to St. Mary’s, Georgia, by water on Amelia River Cruises to benefit Meals on Wheels for Pets. The cruise leaves from the Fernandina Beach Harbor Marina at 10:30 AM and returns at 2:30 PM. The Amelia River ferry is pet friendly, but the restaurants aren’t, so if you bring your pooch, pack a picnic lunch. The ferry is also equipped to transport bicycles though you‚ will need a reservation to ensure space.
When you reach the charming Victorian Georgia town you can take a leisurely stroll through the streets, take a historic tour on their tram or enjoy a lovely lunch at one of their many restaurants.
This outing to St. Mary’s is a way that you can have an enjoyable day and also support this very worthy project that will deliver pet food along with healthy human food to the recipients of Meals on Wheels.
COST: $25 per person round trip, (partially tax deductible). Call Amelia River Cruises at 904-261-9972 or visit www.ameliarivercruises.com for tickets.
