Memorial Day Memories [Video]

Memorial Day, Amelia Island

The Memorial Day Weekend held many exciting events for locals and tourists alike. Friday night, Sounds on Centre was enjoyed in historic Fernandina Beach and the Boardwalk Bash at the Spa and Shops of Amelia Island Plantation had members of the Fernandina Pirates Club pillaging and plundering the unsuspecting tourists.

Saturday was the Ed Gaw Open Water Swim Challenge at Main Beach and Amelia Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast sponsored both a 40 mile and a 100 mile bicycle ride for free!

The beaches were packed all weekend and so was the Fernandina Beach Golf Course. The Fernandina Beach Pirates Pub Crawl on Sunday afternoon was a huge hit selling more than 200 tickets in advance. No one is sure what the money goes towards, but many of the merchants I spoke with in the historic district said, “If it brings people downtown, I don’t really care what happened to the money.”

Of course, Memorial Day is a day of remebrance for those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms and they should be remembered each and every day of the year!

This video was by far one of my favorites. I don't know how I missed you on the pub crawl, but it was great that you were here, there, and everywhere over the weekend. Welcome to another beautiful Amelia Island summer!

This just in – Darin Peckham is the bass player at Indigo Alley in the video! Isn't he and Frankie, the drummer, involved in the Tuesday night Jazz Jams?

Thanks Carmen, I discuss that with my camera-man every time he shoots without the tripod. LOL
