Representative Janet Adkins' office announces Messenger Program for High School Students
Fernandina Beach, Florida – The office of Representative Janet Adkins, R- District 12, is now accepting Messenger applications for the Florida House of Representatives Page and Messenger Program.
The program takes place during the 2012 legislative session which is held from Jan. 10 to March 9. Messengers are high school students who travel to the Capitol and work one week during the 60-day session. Rep. Adkins will sponsor one messenger who will work for one week in and around the Capitol. The student selected will have the privilege of observing the Capitol during its busiest time and of seeing his or her state government in action.
Throughout the week, the messenger will observe house sessions in the chamber and assist the representative by delivering important documents and messages to her. They will also be able to attend committee meetings and observe live press conferences. During this time, there will be optional, educational activities for messengers that may include participating in a mock session and taking tours of the Governor’s Mansion, the Florida Supreme Court, the Museum of Florida History and the Historic Capitol.
