Musical Master Class at Amelia Community Theatre

During the Master Class, instructor Kristin Sakamoto will work with pre-selected students who will prepare and present an audition on stage.

Musical Master Class at Amelia Community TheatreAmelia Community Theatre has announced their first Master Class: “16 Bars: Nailing the Audition”.

The class will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 2 in Studio 209 at ACT.

Meet the Instructor
Kristin Sakamoto has been a musical theatre professional for 23 years. She has served as a music director, director, choreographer, and/or performer for over 50 productions in both community and professional theatres across Florida and North Carolina. She performed as a singer/dancer at Walt Disney World for eight years, and she has taught numerous musical theatre camps and classes to both children and adults. She has also written original vocal arrangements for five musicals.

About the Master Class
Have you ever wanted to audition for a musical but had no idea what to sing? Or how to sing it? Or what to do with your hands? Or where to look? Here’s your chance to hear from an experienced music director and learn more about:
-How to pick your audition song
-Unusual sources for audition material
-Making transitions within an audition
-How to classify your vocal range
-Preparing music for an accompanist
-The pros and cons of using a background track
-What to do with your hands, feet, etc. during a vocal audition

Next Season, ACT will be presenting the musicals Grease and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. Join us for ideas and tips to help you prepare for these upcoming auditions. Learn how to make the most of every audition and maybe even enjoy the process!

During the Master Class, instructor Kristin Sakamoto will work with pre-selected students who will prepare and present a mock audition on stage. Kristin will coach each student through the audition and address the ways to make it more effective. Audience observers will also be given the opportunity to participate in group exercises pertaining to musical theatre auditions.

The suggested donation for the June 2 Master Class is $5, but all are welcome to attend, regardless of ability to pay. A donation container will be set up in the lobby; pay what you are able!
