Nassau County must find ways to attract new businesses and industry, broadening the tax base and providing more jobs
This project encompasses five areas of focus:
- 1) Business recruitment and marketing
2) Government affairs
3) Business retention and workforce development
4) Communication & public relations
5) Investor relations
After presenting a brief video to the group to highlight current projects undertaken by the Nassau County Economic Development Board, Rieck discussed the plight of the county’s tax base and the over reliance upon property taxes to fund necessary county services. As he points out, the current tax structure is unsustainable over the long haul. Nassau County must find ways to attract new businesses and industry, broadening the tax base and providing more jobs in the meantime, all while remaining respectful of the environment and the overall impact upon quality of life in the county. The East Nassau Community Development Area and the Crawford Diamond complex are just two of the areas of focus undertaken by the NCEDB toward realizing these goals.
