Saturday Video of the Amelia Island Car Show

Saturday at the Amelia Island Car Show activities including the RM Auction of vintage cars and test driving your favorite automobiles.

Saturday of the Amelia Island Car Show The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance officially is held on Sunday, March 13th at The Golf Club of Amelia Island, but there was no shortage of activity surrounding the Ritz Carlton on Saturday.

RM Auctions returned to the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton and hosted their annual auction of vintage motor cars in conjunction with the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance… and this event did not disappoint!

Witnessing a 1930 Packard Super Eight All-Weather Town Car sell for $100,000, which was less than the estimated $135,000 – $175,000; I began to wonder if our questionable economy of late was hindering sales. Then a 1935 Auburn 851 SC Boattail Speedster pulled its predicted $375,000 and a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe by Walter M. Murphy Co. pulled in a pleasant $875,000.

The owner of a 1956 Cadillac El Dorado Brougham Town Car prototype, estimated at $500,000 – to $750,000, turned down a bid of $460,000 – yes, for a car! One of the day’s surprises was a 1954 Kaiser-Darrin Roadster offered without reserve. Estimated at $100,000 – $140,000, this little treasure brought in a selling bid of $160,000!

Now I certainly cannot afford to bid on any cars selling for the price of my home and then some… so, it was time to have a bit of fun with the many automobile manufacturers offering free test drives in front of this oceanfront resort!

Maybach 62SMany came out to test drive (many more came out to drool over) the incredible variety of cars on hand to take for a spin. The classic favorites were on hand such as Mercedes and BMW, but there were two others that caught my attention this year.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a luxurious sports car built to comfortably seat four adults, practical, fast and with an exqusite leather interior package!

The other car that caught my attention was the Maybach 62S. With reclining backseats, twenty-one speaker surround sound, and electrically operated fabric curtains to draw for privacy, this luxury car should come with someone to let you know when it is time to fasten your seatbelts and put your tray table in its locked and upright postition.

Take a look at the video below for some quick auction action and then dream about test driving your favorite car!
