Ngiam Tong Boon invented the Singapore Sling sometime around 1912 for the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Today’s recipe varies greatly from the published recipes prior to 1970. Thanks to notes that were discovered and the memories of a few bartenders it appears the original recipe consisted of equal parts of gin, cherry brandy and Benedictine. The drink was shaken and strained into a glass in which club soda was added to taste.
One interesting note: All Singapore Airlines flights offer the drink for free to all of its passengers no matter which class they prefer to fly.
