Summer Solstice Trek 2010

The Amelia Island Beach Walk Summer Solstice Trek ’10 is on Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 PM. With the change of the seasons, Hugh Williams of Chaplin Williams Realty, organizes a 16 mile trek along the coast of Amelia Island from tip to tip.

Join many of your neighbors this Saturday at the fort parking lot at Fort Clinch State Park for this fun journey that begins at 3:00 PM. The walk is scheduled to end at 10:00 PM at Amelia State Park on the south end of Amelia Island.

You will want to bring a small flashlight and some cash to enjoy happy hour at several different beach bars along the way. Remember, this is a 16 mile walk to the south end bridge!

The walk does have a Facebook page, but for some reason I could not get the link to work. I tried to look up more details about the event on their wordpress website but it has not been updated since summer 2009.

Personally I think Hugh is trying to raise commandos for the Iraqi desert. 3pm is a little too hot for my taste. I did last year's walk (with video camera mind you) but that started at 7am. Maybe the early morning hours clash with the big Yard Sale by the Board of Realtors, but I won't be making it at 3.

IMPORTANT: This message from Hugh Williams (organizer of the summer solstice trek June 19) was just posted on our Facebook and should get a bit more spread: Remember that we won't be able to get back into Fort Clinch State Park after dark….so….we are meeting at the Rec Center on Atlantic Avenue (just across the street from the entrance) at 2:30 to car pool into the park and get dropped off. See ya! Hugh
