Sunset over the Amelia River
Sunset over the Amelia River

Last evening I found myself relaxing on Centre Street in the Fernandina Beach Historic District, picking up a few bargains and just enjoying an hour to myself.  Even in the cold I bought an ice cream at Fantastic Fudge and sat on a bench and watched the people.  I was amazed at how many people there were out and about.  I noticed the sun beginning to set over the river and I knew I had to make it to the river front to capture this.  All I had was my cell phone to capture the moment but hey, you do the best you can with what you have, right.

It was a beautiful sunset.  Boats and birds in the foreground with the golden sunset in the background.  After taking the picture I sat and reflected on what a wonderful town we live in.  This is truly a magical Island that can be very therapeutic, if we allow it to be.  This has been a very hectic month for me, (not to mention a very hectic year). Just in those short moments I found myself feeling really relaxed and calm for the first time in a long while.

The ice cream and beauty of our Island sunsets just seemed to do the trick.¬† I wondered why we don’t do more of this?¬† Why would we not take advantage of this natural beauty a least a couple of times a week.¬† Sort of like recharging our internal batteries and calming our cluttered minds of all the the 21st. century has piled on us.¬† I for one have made a promise to myself to enjoy at least one sunset per week and two sunrises per month.¬† I look forward to increasing the dosage, and soon.¬† Try it yourself, I think it is a perfect Rx.
