Enjoy your friends who have come to call by visiting the farmers and Arts Markets
Now that the Christmas rush is through, it is time to enjoy your friends, relatives, and neighbors who have come to call. The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers and Arts Markets are a great way to spend a Saturday morning as you take a stress-free stroll through historic Fernandina Beach. Amid the seaside village full of Victorian architecture and colorful history, you’ll find a splendid open air market under the Spanish moss draped oak trees of Amelia Island. From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., North Seventh Street, between Centre and Alachua Streets, is transformed into a Market Place full of fresh baked breads, wild caught shrimp, yard eggs, infused vinegar, Alaskan salmon, and scallops. Plentiful in landscaping plants, there are colorful baskets, interesting succulents, and hardy foundation plants. You’ll find a bountiful harvest of seasonal produce, locally roasted coffee, and straight from the farm dairy products. You’ll find handcrafted elderberry syrup, dip mixes, jams, jellies, preserves, and pickles. There are tents with grass-fed beef, Italian sauces, cookies, cupcakes, and doughnuts. There are so many booths in the farmers market, I simply can’t mention them all.
In addition to the wonderful vendors of the farmers market, the Fernandina Beach Arts Market offers nearly 30 tents where artists can show off their talents in painting, metalwork, writing, sewing, glass work, and crafting. These special individuals are on-hand to talk with you about what inspires them to create their unique pieces of art. From fine to whimsical jewelry, mugs to wooden signs, and handbags to quilts, you will find one-of-a-kind souvenirs, gifts, and household additions that will start conversations for years to come.
Join us on a Saturday where you can bring your well-behaved leashed pets, hear young toddlers squeal in delight when they taste their first strawberry, or listen to the sounds of a local, aspiring young musician. This week we are blessed to have Jennifer Burns share her vocal talent with us. Open rain or shine, after the first of the year, we will go back to our regular schedule. The farmers market is open every Saturday of the year, and the Arts Market is open on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. We hope you will share with us a farewell to 2019, and help us prepare to welcome 2020 and all of the new dreams the new year will bring. For more information, find either market on facebook.
