The New Agrarians at An Evening of Story and Song

What better name for a band inspired by a group of "Fugitive Poets", who bemoaned the threat of modernism to Southern Culture?

The New Agrarians at An Evening of Story and SongAn Evening of Story & Song will be held Saturday, June 14th, with The New Agrarians.

If you had joined An Evening of Story & Song when Tom Kimmel performed here on Amelia Island, first with The Waymores, and then solo for the Amelia Island Book Festival, you’d know that he is every bit as much a poet as he is a supremely talented singer/songwriter.

It’s no wonder, then, that Tom, Mississippi born and bred, has teamed up with two other Southern singer/songwriter/poets, Pierce Pettis and Kate Campbell, to perform together as The New Agrarians.

What better name for a band inspired by a group of “Fugitive Poets”, who bemoaned the threat of modernism to Southern Culture? Nashville’s “Fugitive Poets” became “The Southern Agrarians” in the 1930s, embracing a form of labor pursued with intelligence and leisure.

Having written songs for some of the biggest names in music, like Linda Rondstadt, Garth Brooks, Art Garfunkel, Joan Baez and scores more, The New Agrarians are sure to entertain and delight!
