I have spent the past couple of years trying to figure out how one family, with three kids, can accumulate so much stuff!
- Bring your quarters and one dollar bills, prices so low it will give you the chills.
Pots and pans and clothing and books, we’ve cleaned out our closets, crannies and nooks.
Every time my mother visits she brings boxes of things she no longer wants or needs. She won’t just throw them away or give them to charity. Mom has a visitation ritual which includes her bringing at least one box of “stuff”. Suddenly, we found ourselves staring at stacks of boxes cluttering up the garage. Don’t get me wrong, she has the best of intentions, but she literally owns three of everything. Her stuff, the stuff my step-father had when they married, and then the new stuff they bought as a married couple. This “yours, mine and ours” lifestyle has brought us boxes containing medical supplies, books, dog toys, lawn tools, clothing, linens, holiday decorations… you name it, we’ve likely seen it in “the box.”
Another reason for this yard sale is that our family, as a whole, has lost over 300 pounds within the past two years! Shedding the weight has encouraged us to shed “possessions” as well. Our lifestyle has changed, and so have our interests, our hobbies, activites and even the way we cook or prepare meals.
After 21 years of marriage, we have also come to the conclusion that none of our older kids will ever want to inherit these hand-me-downs from their grandmother’s house, so I see no reason to be the proud owner of ten skillets! Really, does anyone need four garlic presses?
The sale is on Friday and Saturday at my mother-in-laws home (yes, she is shedding her stuff, too), on Jeckyll Court, across from the YMCA, in Fernandina Beach. The sale is from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM on both days.
This stuff is priced to go!!!
Our friends are shedding, too! This multi-family yard sale includes CB radios, small playpen, baskets, jewelry, knick-knacks, toys, books, file cabinet, stackable storage units for your garage at only $5.00 a piece, kitchenware, linens, curtains, clothes, TV, lamps, small furniture pieces, record player, motorcycle stuff, cheap fridge and oh, so much more!
You are encouraged to bring small bills when you go yard sale shopping… we do not have the ability to change a bunch of $20.00 bills. But, bring those 20’s just in case, afterall, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!
Finally, No Early Birds! This means do not arrive before we open at 8:00 AM! We won’t be ready, you’ll just be in our way and I am NOT a morning person…
