Keep it relevant: Writing and selling the Op Ed Piece
At our Writers by the Sea January meeting, not one but two dynamic speakers will help fill-in the blanks for writers who desire to submit Op Ed pieces. Between the two of them, David N. Scott and Bill Pennington have over 70 years of professional writing experience.
DAVID N. SCOTT
Dave Scott’s career spans 45 years in journalism. For five years, he worked as a daily reporter in FL and NY before joining the corporate world. There, he headed up communications for IBM, ITT, and other Fortune 50 companies in the US and Europe. In 2011, he retired from running his own agency, to Amelia Island, and began writing a gratis column for the News Leader. It transitioned into a popular online blog that offers updates and sharp insights into all things Amelia. In addition, he writes, edits and publishes the annual Amelia Island News-Wrecker, a cheeky newspaper parody.
BILL PENNINGTON
For 25 years, Bill wrote columns and feature stories for publications in Georgia and Florida. He is a recipient of the Road Runners Clubs of America, National Writer of the Year; an Associated Press Reporter’s Award; and Georgia Sportswriter’s Columnist Award. He created a popular Amelia Island newsletter and copy-writes for Emilie Pennington Advertising Design. A self-proclaimed professional athlete “trapped in an amateur’s body” Bill competes in road races, cycling events and triathlons (over 250); finishing 16 Gate River Runs. His diverse take on competing and training for endurance sports, adds humor for athlete and non-athlete readers. Bill and wife Emilie have lived on Amelia Island for 16 years, but his love affair with the island reaches back to college.
Held at the Amelia Island Museum of History, 233 S. Third Street in Fernandina Beach, you are invited to gather at 6:00 p.m. for fellowship with members and other guests. The presentation beginning at 6:30.
