Meet Sajah of Island Tribe Belly Dance

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance was brought to SE Georgia and NE Florida by Sajah, a woman passionate about the art enough to share this style of dance with others in our area by opening three dance studios.

Created in SanFrancisco, this American dance blends elements of Flamenco, Kathak and many other folkloric dances. Sajah’s dancing doesn’t stop with movement, she incorporates costuming and music theory, and encourages women of all ages and physical fitness levels to join the fun, meet other wonderful women, and experience this exciting art form while getting in shape.

Just take a look at the video, you will see the passion on her face when Alex of SearchAmelia asks her about Island Tribe Belly Dance.

I have been Sajah’s student for three years now. I really cannot say enough about her as a teacher and a mentor in this art form. Sajah is very thorough in her teaching of not only proper technique and etiquette, but in the cultures we pull from, the rhythms we dance too, the importance of costuming and stage presence. I feel very fortunate to have entered this art form under her guidance. Studying under Sajah has made me not only a confident dancer, but an informed and conscientious dancer as well.

Don’t forget to add that you’ve become an amazingly graceful and entrancing dancer as well!

I have been a student of Sajah Medina , Island Tribe Belly Dance for a little over a year. I arrived at my first class not knowing what to expect. During that class and the many since I have learned that there is a difference between learning to dance and living the dance. I started just wanting to dance , not really understanding the art . I came to realize that there is much more to belly dance than shimmy and shake. Sajah respects the art and lives the dance , this is communicated to her students.
